Automechanika is a leading trade event the brings together the whole of the automotive after market and supply chain and 2016 is first time it has been held in the UK.  With 600 stands and 12,000 visitors we are confident it will be returning again soon!

Our Top 3 Highlights

  1. Manufacturing is Great Stand – The stand showcased some great British automotive manufacturing.  This included a vehicle with half of the body work removed giving visibility of the internal mechanics.
  2. The BLOODHOUND Project – The project centres on BLOODHOUND SSC, a supersonic car that is designed not only to go faster than the speed of sound (supersonic) but to over 1,000mph (1,600km/h). It will cover a mile in just 3.6 seconds and it was impressive to see the 13.5 metre long car in all its glory at the NEC.  It is one of the most exciting engineering adventures that the world has seen for many years.
  3. The SMMT Seminar sessions were a great insight into the future of the automotive Industry and to understand the innovations that are gaining the most attention during 2016.

We chatted to automotive engineering firms and we listened to industry experts who gave us their thoughts on automotive trends and innovations.  We stared in awe at cars that cost more than the average house in Britain!  We had a break with our free coffee and felt felt inspired when we read that there is a planned £225 million investment by SMMT supply chain members to boost the British content of vehicles built in the UK over the next 3 years.  All in all, as we drove back up the M6, we felt proud to be a small part of the impressive UK automotive industry.
